Funky B began her career in 2000, in Cape Town, where she lived at the time and after touching a vinyl for the first time ever, held her first residency just 1 week after learning to mix.  The club was called "Long Beach" on Long street and soon after she was playing all over Cape Town with numerous residencies held and gigging at events such as Gatecrasher and Tidy Trax. 

The bug had bitten and four years later she moved to Durban where she continued to pursue her dream.  Funky B has played at all the top clubs in Durban such as Origin and 330 and has played alongside international dj's such as Judge Jules, Pleasurekraft and Sebastien leger to name a few. 

She has played at all the major local festivals and events such as Fun in the sun, H2O, Aquafest, Rock the beach and Vodacom Durban July.  In 2007 she was hired to DJ on the cricket  field at the first ever T20 Cricket world cup which was broadcast to 55 million people globally.

 

The opportunity to play overseas came in 2004 when she was hired for "The Library", an upmarket club at the "Trans asia hotel" in Sri Lanka.  The tour was cancelled after 1 week of gigging, tv interviews and magazine articles when the country was hit by the boxing day Tsunami which devastated it and sent her back home, luckily unscathed.

Funky B had a musical upbringing with everyone in her family playing an instrument and as a child, many a night was spent with her parents friends playing alongside their band practices with keyboards, drums, harmonica or anything that made a beat. Rock music was not her calling at all and so of course with her DJ background and love for EDM she is now working on some of her own music.

Radio broadcasting is also another passion of hers and Funky B has now also started on Red Cap radio as a DJ host.  Red Cap radio has a listenership of 4.7 million, making it the third largest radio station in South Africa.
